Savoy Hotel

I recently had dinner at the Savoy Grill and it was as expected excellent.

London’s Savoy Hotel opened its doors in 1889. It was the first luxury hotel in Britain and no expense was spared in its construction. The man who started it all was Richard D’Oyle Carte, a Victorian impresario. Recently the hotel had a £220 million refit.

The hotel was a favourite amongst celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Charlie Chaplin, Sophia Loren and Irish poet and playwright Oscar Wilde. Winston Churchill had his own table at the Grill.

The Savoy Grill is owned by Gordon Ramsey. The head chef is Matt Worswick and the Maître d’ is Thierry Tomasin who joined Gordon from his Petrus restaurant.

He was easy to recognise from the recent TV series on the Savoy Hotel where he was known as “Oh La La” and a great character. The four-part series took you behind the scenes in the running of the hotel.

The Government has announced another lockdown so I am unable to work from Thursday 5th November for one month. I hope  everyone keeps well and we'll catch up soon.
