Midnight Bell

Recently I saw Matthew Bourne’s new show The Midnight Bell. The characters come together with isolation and loneliness which ae feelings we are all familiar with. It is set in 1930s London life where ordinary people meet in the pub. It is based on the works of the English novelist Patrick Hamilton who died in 1963.

The cast lip synch to some of the greatest songs of the 1930s such as  The Man I Love, Maybe It’s Because I Love You Too Much and What is This Thing Called Love (Cole Porter).

The dancers are superb and I have enjoyed every show Matthew Bourne has done.

Then I went to Bath Abbey to a concert of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. The guest violinist was Briamah Kanneh-Mason, a young violinist coming from a family of seven gifted musicians. He is 23 years old and has performed throughout Europe. What a talent! He was backed by the Bath Philharmonic Orchestra.
