Dromoland Castle

For my birthday this year I took a three day break and went to Ireland. I stayed at Dromoland Castle in County Clare. It was a pleasant and relaxing time.

The Earl of Thomond main restaurant is fine dining. Very good food but the wine list was completely out of order. It was a book of about 300 pages with only about 10 bottles between £40 and £80 right up to £3,600!

The Castle grounds are extensive with a golf course, lake and various activities like horse riding and archery available. There is a walled garden, a hidden gem in the grounds dating from 1812 with a lily pond and stone arches.

Dromoland Castle was the home of the O’Briens of Dromoland who were the kings of Thomond and whose lineage goes back 1,000 years to Brian Boru, the only King of Ireland.

I also went to Bunratty Castle and Folk Park.  The castle was built around 1425 and is furnished with 15th and 16th Century furnishing with French and Belgian tapestries on the walls. The grounds have re-built cottages showing various peasant and worker’s homes from different parts of Ireland. Such a fascinating insight into olden days.

May I take this opportunity to wish all my clients and friends

Happy Christmas and a healthy New Year
