Connemara

Connemara is on the Atlantic Coast in the west of Ireland. The national park is a vast expanse of mountains, bogs, heathland and lakes. The park is also home to the Connemara Ponies and is a good area for traditional Irish music.

I was there for three days for my birthday and stayed at Ballynahinch Castle. It is set in a private 700 acre estate of woodland and rivers with the Twelve Bens mountains in the background. The dining room has beautiful views over the river. On one night we had dinner in the Fishermans Pub and bar which has traditional music. It was great Craic, which is Irish for fun! I also went to Kylemore Abbey which was a Benedictine Monastery founded in the 1920s for the Benedictine Nuns who had to flee from Ypres in Belgium during World War I. It was a fabulous birthday.
