Pieter Breugel

Pieter Bruegel The Elder was the most significant artist of the Dutch and Flemish Renaissance school of painters. He was a painter and printmaker well known for his landscapes and peasant scenes.

After his travels in Italy he returned in 1555 to settle in Antwerp where he worked mainly as a prolific designer of prints for a leading publisher of the day, only towards the end of his life did he switch to paintings.
