Cinderella The Musical

For the first time in two and a half years I got back to the theatre. I have just been to see Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new musical Cinderella which is showing at the Gillian Lane theatre in London.

This is a big colourful production starring Carrie Hope Fletcher who has a wonderful voice. This production of Cinderella isn’t your typical Cinderella story but yes, the Fairy Godmother, the wicked stepmother and step-sisters all remain with Prince Charming being a surprise twist at the end.

Set in a fictional town which celebrates the beauty of its residents everyone is pretty and fits in except Cinderella and nobody speaks to her but she isn’t afraid to speak her mind. There is plenty of dancing and in the second half there is a spinning stage and the audience get a completely different view. It is certainly a new kind of fairy tale.
