Black Swans
On a recent trip to Chartwell, the former home of Winston Churchill, I had a good walk around the gardens and on the lakes there were black swans. They have been there since 1927 and are very rare in the UK. They originally come from Australia and. I actually saw some when I was in Australia in 2019.
These swans were looked after by Winston Churchill and are now cared for by the National Trust. Apparently it has been known for swans to mate for life and die of a broken heart when they lose their partner although the female Australian black swans may mate with multiple males.
